Degree Holders: $1300 – $1900 USD * per month.
Non-Degree Holders: ~$1500 USD * per month

* May fluctuate due to exchange rate volatility.
 

Placement Types

Placements are mainly in public schools and private language centers (“Eikaiwas”) teaching kindergarten, primary (elementary and middle), high school students or adults.

 

Contract Length

Placements are for 1 year and can be renewed if you’d like to stay and continue to teach and travel.

 

In-class Accreditation & Placement Only options

Get TEFL/TESOL certified in-class in Japan or online. If you already have an accredited TEFL/TESOL certification, our Placement Only option is best for you.


Eligibility Requirements

You don’t need to have any teaching experience to teach English in Japan. You do need:

Required (Degree Holders)

  • A passport from the UK, USA, Canada, Ireland, Australia or New Zealand
  • A bachelor’s degree in hand in any field (Letter of graduation not acceptable) – no teaching experience required.
  • A Native English Speaker
  • No major medical or mental health diagnosis or medication in the past 5 years
  • No communicable diseases
  • An entirely clear criminal record check, with no reflections of any kind. 
  • No visible tattoos, such as on the face, neck and hands
  • To be in excellent health with a doctors letter being required to confirm you are fit to travel and live abroad for at least 1 year.
  • You will also be required to have a tuberculosis (TB) scan done to confirm you do not have TB.

Preferred on case-by-case basis (Degree Holders)

  • Between 21 and 40 years of age
  • Driver's License

Required (Non-Degree Holders)

  • A passport from the UK, Canada, Ireland, Australia or New Zealand (Please note that only these passports are eligible for the Working Holiday Visa)
  • A Native English Speaker
  • Aged 20-30 years of age. Must be no older than 30 at the time of program signup.
  • Must complete our 120-hour Online TEFL/TESOL Course prior to departure.
  • No major medical or mental health diagnosis or medication in the past 5 years
  • No communicable diseases
  • An entirely clear criminal record check, with no reflections of any kind. 
  • No visible tattoos, such as on the face, neck and hands

Program Highlights (Non-Degree Holders) 

  • full-time, paid position as an ALT in Japanese public schools. The position is an incredible segue into a full-time teaching position but offers the teacher an opportunity to ease into teaching as an assistant in the classroom, helping Japanese co-teachers as the native English teacher.

    Your main role will be to assist with pronunciation, grammar and classroom logistics. 
  • Salary of +-$1500 USD per month (may fluctuate due to exchange rates) – this is one of the best salary ranges for non-degree-holding teachers in the entire Teach Abroad industry! 
  • The position will start in late March 2024 and run until late March 2025, using the Working Holiday Visa. 
  • You’ll have the opportunity to fully immerse yourself into Japanese culture and build up a support network of fellow expatriate teachers while bolstering your employability and gaining invaluable international teaching experience
  • Our partner schools will assist in your accommodation setup and you simply pay the monthly rental. 
  • Free car to use provided to you by the school for transportation between schools as well as personal travels!
